The Power of Recognition: Putting People First at 3Q Recruitment

As a speaker, entrepreneur, and the proud founder of 3Q Recruitment, I have always believed that a people-first strategy isn’t just a philosophy—it’s the foundation of success. Recognition and appreciation are at the core of our values, and I want to share why this approach is so important—not just for our business, but for yours too.

At 3Q Recruitment, we specialise in matching skilled professionals with meaningful roles in healthcare, catering, and office support. Our team is committed to placing the right people in the right roles, ensuring businesses thrive and professionals feel valued. With a strong emphasis on respect, quality, and care, we have built a reputation for putting people at the heart of recruitment.

This belief came to life once again at our Annual Temp Awards, held on February 11th at Wynn’s Hotel, Dublin, during Valentine’s week—because what better time to celebrate the people who make our company what it is? We honoured our incredible temps with awards such as the Superhero Award, the Spirit of 3Q Award, the Longest Service Award, and the most prestigious title, Temp of the Year, chosen from 12 outstanding nominees. It was a night filled with joy, connection, and deep appreciation, reinforcing the power of recognition—not just for employees, but for businesses, teams, and leaders alike.

As I reflected on the night, I realised that the lessons from this event extend far beyond 3Q. Recognition isn’t just an HR strategy—it’s a game-changer for anyone looking to build a stronger, more engaged workplace. When people feel valued, they become more invested in their work, their teams, and the success of the organisation.

What Does This Mean for You?

Recognition isn’t about extravagant gestures; it’s about making people feel seen, valued, and appreciated. Research tells us that employees who feel recognised are more engaged, more productive, and more likely to stay. But beyond the statistics, it’s simply the right thing to do. If you’re looking for ways to create a culture of appreciation in your workplace, here are three simple ways to start:

1. Celebrate the Everyday Wins

A simple “thank you” can have a massive impact. Publicly acknowledge achievements in meetings, emails, or a quick shout-out. As leadership expert Ken Blanchard says, “The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority.” A workplace where recognition is frequent is a workplace where people want to stay.

2. Personalise Your Approach

Not everyone likes the spotlight. Some prefer public praise, while others appreciate a quiet word of thanks, a personal note, or even a professional development opportunity. Take the time to understand how each person prefers to be recognised.

3. Create Meaningful Traditions

Whether it’s an annual awards ceremony, a ‘thank-you’ board, or a Friday appreciation message, making recognition a regular and meaningful part of your culture strengthens teams and fosters connection. At 3Q, our Annual Temp Awards are a reminder of how powerful it is to pause and acknowledge the difference people make—both individually and as a team.

My Challenge to You

Take a moment today to reflect on the impact you, your team, or your business has in the world. Whether through a simple message of appreciation or a larger celebration, find ways to make recognition a habit, not just an occasion—because when you uplift those around you, you don’t just build a better workplace—you create a culture where people thrive.
